Our conservatories are equipped with SMARTGLASS® technology, which not only provides excellent thermal insulation but also offers noise reduction properties. Our argon gas-filled windows and double-glazed doors keep the cold out and reflect heat back, helping to keep it warm during the winter months. FAQs about uPVC Conservatories Leicester
Do you need permission for a conservatory?
Generally, planning permission is not necessary for most conservatories, but we always recommend that you check whether planning permission is required. Most conservatories can be built under the “permitted development” rules, but this is subject to certain conditions. For example, conservation areas have stricter rules. Checking this will give you peace of mind and there’s also no risk of having your conservatory removed in the future should it be built illegally.
What is the process of building a new conservatory?
Building your new conservatory with Phair Windows is an easy and seamless process. In short, we:
- Design & CAD: We start by helping you choose and refine your bespoke conservatory design using advanced CAD.
- Site Preparation: We mark out and prepare the site, removing obstructions and digging footings.
- Base Construction: We build the foundations, lay the damp-proof course, concrete the floor, and construct the dwarf walls.
- Framework & Glazing: We then erect the uPVC framework and roof, followed by the installation of glass units and roof panels.
The job is not complete until you’re 100% satisfied with your new conservatory. You’ll also receive all of the relevant paperwork.
How big a conservatory can I have without planning permission?
The size of a conservatory that can be built without permission varies depending on factors such as location and whether it is a detached or semi-detached/terraced property. The maximum size is generally 30 square metres or less, and it should not extend further than the original rear wall by more than 4 metres for a detached house or 3 metres for a semi-detached or terraced property. Always verify with the local planning authority for any additional specifications.
What's the difference between a conservatory and an orangery?
An orangery and a conservatory are quite different. An orangery has a brick structure with some windows covering less than 50% of the walls and a glass roof covering less than 75% of the roof area. Whereas a conservatory is made up of at least 50% glass with a brick base and pitched glazed roof covering more than 75% of the roof area. This is the general rule, however, all styles of conservatories and orangeries vary from property to property.
Are conservatories safe and secure?
Yes, conservatories by Phair Windows are highly secure using the latest double glazing technology and locking systems. All of our conservatories are made with premium-grade materials and fitted with high-security locking systems to keep any possible burglars out.
What are the benefits of adding a conservatory to your home in Leicester?
Adding a conservatory to your home in Leicester offers several benefits. It increases living space, enhances the feeling of extra space, provides a beautiful connection to the outdoors, enhances natural light, adds value to your property, and creates a versatile room for various purposes such as dining, entertaining, or relaxation.

Professional, skilled, great communication from the on-site team - honestly, the best workmen I’ve ever had. They left the place tidy and neat. Thanks guys! They did a great job on a dreary, winter’s day with a smile. I love the new porch, which was a decent price. Honestly though, the sales guy Tom and the crew of Cal, Jake and Aaron were great. After having had a bad experience before with a different company, I’ll be using Phair Windows to replace my windows in the near future as well.

Excellent prices, excellent window fitters and nothing was too much trouble. Left all clean and tidy. Thoroughly recommendPosted on Deborah GowersNovember 28, 2025. Excellent service from Phair. I had several damaged and misted double glazing panels replaced. Michael, Lincoln and Jason did a great job, friendly and professional, left the area clean and tidy. Also measured up for a roof panel replacement with very difficult access. I would definitely recommend and use again.Posted on Jazzy BainsNovember 24, 2025. Phair Windows and where do I start… I’ve experienced Windows sales people who come over and show you a sample window out from their boot. Show how thermally efficient it is. I’ve had Safe Style, Anglian and Everest visit my old house and new. (These companies are now under one roof). They sell you the dream. Try to make you sign up on the spot by calling their Manager. From experience the windows could be the best ever but it’s the way the fitters fit them is what makes them efficient. Now enough of the waffle…. I looked up Phair Windows via Google reviews. Tom came and visited and he was straight to the point. Told me the price and no dramatic sales pitch. Suggested that we have a hole cut out in the living room and have a window fitted. This was because the window we had was awkwardly positioned in the living room. So instead of bricking up and centralising the window we could have ‘twin’ windows side by side . He sold me the dream and gave him the deposit. I have to admit I was worried as I had given the deposit and what the end product would look like. I made a visit to their show room and they seemed legitimate enough. I only come across this company via Google reviews and had no friends or family that actually had any dealings with them. One of their surveyors, Jake came around and checked if everything was ok and suggested a few tweaks. Another friendly chap. We worked together via email on some window designs and how they would end up looking. Fast forward 8 weeks or so and the fitters came promptly on the scheduled date of install. I got to be honest I wasn’t holding my breath because of my past experiences with Safe Style. They came, they fitted and went. There was a slight technicality with the builder they employed to make the cut out in the living room. This was due to the heavy rain and even though I was not happy but I suppose that was out of anyone’s control. Jake came along on the day to apologise for the builder not doing the job on the set date and honoured me the duraboards for the window sills free of charge for the inconvenience caused. When the builder eventually came he cut out the wall and matched the arched brick work against the other window to perfection. He screwed on the window to the brickwork but was slightly protruding out but barely noticeable. This was because there was only one layer of brick and looks like he couldn’t go further back to match the other window. After his job was done the lads came back to complete the window and fit the new sill. As the window was slightly set back from the living room the cill did not look aesthetically pleasing. Without hesitation they went back to their depo and brought back a wider cill which fitted perfectly all within an hour. All these obstacles was probably due to having a window cut out but these lads overcame them all and acted professionally and kept me in the loop throughout the installation process. They are window fitters and not builders and have done an astounding job. They are a true credit to the company. It’s a shame I don’t recall all their names but hand on heart they were all pleasant gentleman who worked as it was their own home. I did have reservations from the very start of employing a window company that I never heard of but they made me feel reassured throughout the window installation process. I can 101% recommend this company and will approach them in the future when I need windows fitting for a future extension. Great job Phair Windows ❤️Posted on James RileyNovember 18, 2025.
