New Composite Doors and French Door Installation For Property in Rugby
A recent break‑in attempt in Cawston prompted one Rugby homeowner to rethink every exterior door in their semi-detached home.
What started as a security upgrade quickly turned into a complete refresh of the property’s front and back entrances, with a focus on performance, peace of mind, and a more modern, polished look.
Our team at Phair Windows worked with the homeowner to replace their existing wooden front door, side door, and sliding patio door as part of a full door replacement project. The result is a property that feels more secure, more comfortable, and smarter from the outside in.
Project Overview
The homeowner’s main driver for this project was security. After the attempted break‑in, they wanted doors that could withstand modern risks, not just the weather.
Their existing timber and old‑style sliding doors had become weak spots – worn, draughty, and no longer providing the level of protection they expected.
In addition to tightening security, they wanted to upgrade the property’s overall look. The old front door let no natural light in and felt dated, and the patio door no longer “performed” as it should, making the back of the house feel separate from the rest of the home.
The Doors We Replaced
For this project in Cawston, we replaced three of the exterior doors:
Front Door
The old wooden front door was replaced with a Chartwell green composite door featuring decorative glazing.
Composite doors offer strong security, good insulation and a very low‑maintenance finish, so choosing Chartwell green also gave the front of the house a warm, traditional look that fits well with many village‑style homes in the area.

Side Door
The existing side access door was replaced with a composite side door, split half‑glass, half‑panel. This keeps the entrance well lit without sacrificing privacy, and the solid‑panel half adds strength and insulation where it’s needed most.

Sliding Patio Door
The old sliding patio door, which had become stiff, draughty and hard to close, was replaced with a new white uPVC French door set in a matching frame style.
The doors feature gold‑finish handles that tie in with the kitchen hardware, giving the back of the house a more cohesive, considered finish.

The Installation Process
We started by removing the existing doors carefully, making sure not to damage the surrounding brickwork, frames or internal trims. With the old door leaves and frames out, our team surveyed each opening to check for any movement, level issues or damaged timber, and made small repairs where needed.
Once the apertures were clean and level, we:
- Installed a new composite front door with multi‑point locking, security‑rated glazing and a thermally efficient frame.
- Fitted the half‑glass composite side door next, making sure it aligned with the kitchen layout and still gave easy access to the side and back of the property.
- Replaced the sliding door with a set of French doors, including new seals, weather‑stripping and hardware so the doors open and close smoothly, without catching or rattling in the wind.
All three doors were tightly sealed and finished with trims and beading to match the property, and the internal and external areas were cleaned down so the homeowner could move straight back in without any mess or fuss.
The Result
The immediate change was in how the house felt as soon as you walked through the front door. The new Chartwell green composite door gives the property a much more secure, finished look, while the decorative glazing lets light flood into the hallway without compromising privacy.

Inside, the French doors with gold‑finish handles now frame the living area more neatly and tie in visually with the kitchen. The doors are easier to operate, keep the warmth in far better, and feel sturdier than the sliding door they replaced.

Customer Outcome
The homeowner was delighted with the transformation. What started as a security‑driven refresh has ended up making the whole property feel brighter, more comfortable and more “put together”.
The doors no longer feel like weak points. They now form part of the home’s everyday performance, not just its front‑facing image.
Here’s what the homeowner said:
We’d been unhappy with our old doors for years, but after the attempted break‑in we knew it was time to act. The new Chartwell green composite door and French doors have made such a difference – the house feels so much more secure, brighter, and modern. The team at Phair Windows were friendly, professional, and left the place absolutely spotless. We’d definitely recommend them.
