Complete Porch Renovation in Leicester – A Case Study

Brick porch installation with Chartwell green composite door, side panel, uPVC window and pitched tiled roof

A New Porch for a Semi-Detached Property in Leicester

A well-designed porch can completely transform the entrance of a typical Leicester home, adding kerb appeal, security and a practical everyday space for shoes, coats, prams and deliveries.

For this semi-detached property in Leicester, Phair Windows carried out a full porch rebuild. We replaced a tired uPVC structure with a brick-built porch featuring a Chartwell green composite door, white uPVC window and a pitched tiled roof, turning a dated entrance into a standout feature.

Project Overview

Our installation team recently completed a full renovation of an old uPVC porch for a homeowner, transforming a worn and poorly insulated entrance into a modern, secure, and visually striking feature at the front of the property.

The Problem

The original porch structure had become outdated and inefficient. The existing uPVC installation consisted of mismatched windows and panels that no longer complemented the property.

The structure showed signs of deterioration, including damaged framing and poor insulation. The entrance area also lacked kerb appeal and no longer provided the level of security and weather protection expected from a modern porch.

The homeowner wanted a porch that felt solid, secure, and in keeping with the property, with a front door that made a positive first impression rather than an afterthought.

The Process

We started by carefully removing the existing uPVC porch structure, including all windows, panels and the roof. This exposed the underlying blockwork so we could properly assess the opening and plan the rebuild.

Temporary supports were put in place while we removed sections of older brickwork and framework. We then:

  • Rebuilt and squared the porch opening so it was correctly aligned for the new door and window
  • Constructed a new brick base and walls, chosen to tie in with the existing house brickwork
  • Prepared accurate, level apertures for the new composite door and uPVC window

Once the structure was ready, we installed the new porch system, which included:

  • A Chartwell green composite front door with decorative glazing and multi-point locking
  • A glazed side panel to bring more natural light into the entrance area
  • A new A+ rated white uPVC window, allowing light into the porch while maintaining privacy
  • Fresh brickwork and pointing carefully matched to the existing façade
  • A pitched tiled porch roof with integrated guttering, designed to complement the main roofline and improve water run-off

We finished with internal and external sealing, trims and a full clean-down, leaving the entrance ready to use straight away.

The Result

The completed renovation has dramatically improved both the look and performance of the home’s entrance. The new porch now offers:

  • Much better insulation and comfort in the hallway
  • Enhanced security from the composite door and modern locking
  • A bright, welcoming space thanks to the glazing and side panel

The Chartwell green composite door provides a strong focal point, while the new glazing allows light to flow into the porch without compromising privacy. The brickwork and pitched tiled roof blend seamlessly with the existing house, giving the impression that the porch has always been there rather than added later.

Customer Outcome

The homeowner now has a modernised brick porch that instantly lifts the property’s kerb appeal while keeping the hallway warmer and draught-free.

What was a tired, old entrance is now a clean, contemporary feature that feels secure and welcoming, adding real value to their Leicester home. On the inside, it’s practical too. Perfect for coats, shoes and parcels, with a secure buffer between outside and in.
